Ghanaian defender Alexander Djiku suffered an injury setback during Fenerbahce’s dramatic 3-2 victory over Trabzonspor in the Turkish Super Lig.
The former Strasbourg centre-back was forced off the field in the 59th minute due to injury, replaced by Rodrigo Becão.
This isn’t the first time Djiku has been sidelined this season. He missed two games earlier in the campaign due to injury and fitness concerns. Despite his absence, Fenerbahce secured a crucial win.
Fred opened the scoring for Fenerbahce in the 42nd minute, but Trabzonspor fought back with goals from Simon Banza in the 59th and 67th minutes. However, Fenerbahce rallied, with Edin Džeko equalizing in the 75th minute and Sofyan Amrabat securing the victory deep into stoppage time.
Alexander Djiku took to Twitter to express his gratitude, writing, “God is always in control.” The Ghanaian defender has made eight league appearances for Fenerbahce this season.
Fenerbahce currently sits in second place in the Turkish Super Lig with 23 points from 10 matches. Their next challenge will be against AZ Alkmaar in the Europa League on November 7.
