Ghana Boxer John Abaja Laryea is set to make his highly anticipated US debut on November 1 at Caribe Royale, Orlando, against Alexander Mejia from Nicaragua. Despite this being his first bout in the United States, Laryea approaches it with the determination of a world title fight.
“My ultimate goal is the world title, but I’m treating this initial opportunity in the USA as if it were a Title match,” he said in an exclusive interview. “A victory here will not only motivate me but also my team and fellow boxers to strive for greater heights. I am going to shock the world’’
With an undefeated record of 14 bouts, 13 wins, and one draw, the young boxer believes he has undergone the rigorous training necessary to become a world champion. Under the guidance of Coach Carl Lokko of the Bronx Gym, who discovered and turned him pro at the age of 18, Laryea has honed his skills and gained valuable experience.
The 22-year-old Boxer even had the privilege of training with Coach Don Charles, the trainer behind IBF World Heavyweight champion Daniel Dubois. “My coach has a proven track record of producing world champions, and I’m confident he’ll help me achieve that goal,” Laryea expressed. “I’m grateful to Coach Lokko and my manager, Sammy Anim Addo, for this opportunity, and I’m determined to make them proud.”
John Abaja Laryea emphasized that hard work and dedication, rather than superstition or magical remedies, are the keys to success in boxing. ‘’ The juju in boxing is training and at Bronx Gym we train hard and well, that is why we have many young champions, we also support one another other”
As a two-time WBO Africa Featherweight champion, Laryea has faced challenges in finding opponents due to his dominant record. His decision to move to the United States reflects his desire to continue learning and competing against top-level boxers.
“I’m going to the USA to gain experience and represent Ghana proudly,” he noted.
“I want to express my gratitude to my fans in Jamestown, Bukom, and Chorkor Level One for their unwavering support. I won’t let them down, and I encourage them to keep praying for Team Laryea.”
