Revealed: Why Asamoah Gyan Postponed the All Regional Games?

Former Black Stars captain Asamoah Gyan has made the decision to postpone the All Regional Games until 2025.  The event, designed to unearth sporting talent across Ghana, was launched in July 2024 and had already begun its trial stages.

In a statement released on Thursday, October 17, Gyan explained that the postponement would allow the organizers to “build an even bigger and more impactful event.” The new date for next year’s competition will be announced at a later time.

The All Regional Games were designed to showcase the best young athletes from each region of Ghana. Athletes aged 18 to 23 were set to compete in nine sports disciplines, including football, athletics, volleyball, basketball, tennis, table tennis, boxing, e-sports, and arm-wrestling.

Gyan expressed his commitment to the event’s mission of identifying and developing talented athletes who can represent Ghana on the international stage. “To our registered athletes, rest assured that your data remains secure, and you will be given priority for the 2025 edition,” he stated. “New athletes will also be welcomed, with the same rigorous regional trials in place to ensure fair selection and representation.”

The postponement of the All Regional Games comes after Gyan stepped back from his political involvement with the New Patriotic Party (NPP) earlier this year. The former Sunderland star cited his desire to focus on humanitarian work and admitted that he had not been fair to the youth and the people of Ghana.

Despite the postponement, Gyan remains dedicated to the All Regional Games and its goal of nurturing young sporting talent in Ghana.
