Manchester United captain Bruno Fernandes has successfully avoided a ban following his red card in Sunday’s 3-0 loss to Tottenham, thanks to the club’s successful appeal.
The 30-year-old midfielder was initially shown a straight red for a challenge on Spurs’ James Maddison, a decision that would have led to a three-match suspension for serious foul play.
However, after United argued that the decision was incorrect, Fernandes is now cleared to play in the upcoming Premier League fixtures against Aston Villa, Brentford, and West Ham.
The incident, which occurred in the 42nd minute at Old Trafford, saw Fernandes slip and catch Maddison with his leg, though Fernandes maintained that it was accidental and did not warrant a red card.

“Never a red card – that is my view,” Fernandes told BBC Match of the Day after the game. “I agree that it is a foul, but I didn’t touch him with the studs or even the foot; it was my ankle.”
Bruno Fernandes will next be available for Manchester United’s Europa League match against Porto on Thursday, followed by their Premier League clash with Aston Villa on Sunday.
