Manchester United manager, Erik ten Hag, has remained steadfast in his belief that the club is on the right track, despite a disappointing 3-0 defeat to Tottenham Hotspur that left them languishing in 12th place in the Premier League.
Speaking after the match, Ten Hag reiterated his commitment to the club and its leadership: “We all made the decision to stay together as ownership and a leadership group in the summer. We made the decision from after a clear review what we have to improve as an organization and how we want to construct a squad.”
The Dutch manager has attributed the team’s difficulties to a combination of factors, including late transfer signings, organizational changes, and injuries to key players. “We knew it will take some time, because of how the [transfer] window went, some players late in like [Manuel] Ugarte, also we have to make some improvement in the organization, we still have to deal with some injuries, also from some impact players,” he explained.
Despite the mounting pressure, Ten Hag remains optimistic about the future: “I think we will get better there. We need some time. We are all on one page or in one boat together, the ownership, the leadership group, the staff and the players’ group as well. I don’t have that concern.”
However, the Red Devils’ recent performance against Tottenham highlighted their ongoing struggles. The match saw United fall behind early on, with Brennan Johnson scoring after just three minutes. The situation worsened when captain Bruno Fernandes was sent off just before halftime, leaving United to play with ten men for the remainder of the match.
Dejan Kulusevski and Dominic Solanke added to Tottenham’s lead as the game progressed, leading to a growing sense of frustration among United fans. Many supporters left Old Trafford before the final whistle, expressing their disappointment with the team’s performance.
As Manchester United prepare for their Europa League clash against Porto, Ten Hag will be hoping that his team can quickly bounce back and regain their winning form.
