Ghana’s Sports Minister Mustapha Ussif is set to appear before Parliament’s Select Committee on Sports on Tuesday, September 24, 2024, as part of a probe into Ghana’s performance at the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON).
Ussif will address questions regarding the Ministry’s role in the Black Stars’ preparations for the tournament, as well as provide a detailed breakdown of the budget and expenditure, which reportedly exceeded $3 million during the team’s 11-day stay in Ivory Coast.
The parliamentary investigation, chaired by Kobina Woyome, aims to uncover the factors behind Ghana’s disappointing performance at AFCON 2023, where the Black Stars failed to win a match and finished third in their group.
The probe will also involve testimonies from key stakeholders, including the Ghana Football Association, Black Stars management, and the National Sports Authority.

Additionally, members of the Save Ghana Football Forum, a pressure group that held demonstrations following Ghana’s AFCON exit, will present their perspectives.
“The aim of the probe is to get a fundamental understanding of the issues that have led us to this point. To interrogate the individual decisions and conducts that may in one way or the other have affected our Black Stars,” Woyome explained to JoySports.
