Bayern Munich’s Harry Kane delivered a historic performance, scoring four goals to become England’s all-time top scorer in the Champions League or European Cup, in a stunning 9-2 demolition of Dinamo Zagreb.
Kane’s fourth goal of the night, his third penalty, marked his 33rd in the Champions League, surpassing Wayne Rooney’s previous record of 30. This outstanding feat also brought his Bayern tally to 53 goals in just 50 games.
France winger Michael Olise, another London-born star, made a memorable Champions League debut, scoring twice in Bayern’s emphatic victory. Bayern Munich set another milestone by becoming the first team to net nine goals in a Champions League match.
The game began with Kane giving Bayern the lead through a penalty after Aleksandar Pavlovic’s foul, expertly sending goalkeeper Ivan Nevistic the wrong way. Raphael Guerreiro doubled the advantage with a sensational half-volley, followed by Olise’s header from Joshua Kimmich’s cross.
Despite bringing on Sven Ulrich for the injured Manuel Neuer at halftime, Bayern briefly wavered, conceding twice within five minutes to Bruno Petkovic and Takuya Ogiwara. However, Bayern quickly regained their dominance, with Kane scoring off a rebound from Kimmich’s saved shot, and Olise slotting into an open net.

Kane went on to convert two more penalties, completing his hat-trick of spot-kicks after a questionable VAR decision and a foul on Alphonso Davies. Leroy Sane then came off the bench to blast in a 20-yard screamer, while Leon Goretzka’s header completed the nine-goal rout.

This match tied as the second-highest scoring game in Champions League history, alongside Monaco’s 8-3 victory over Deportivo La Coruña in 2003. The record still belongs to Borussia Dortmund’s 8-4 win against Legia Warsaw in 2016.
The game also saw Thomas Muller set a new record, making his 152nd Champions League appearance for Bayern, surpassing Barcelona legend Xavi for the most appearances with a single club in the tournament.
Kane’s nine goals in five games for Vincent Kompany’s Bayern this season include a hat-trick in their recent 6-1 win against Holstein Kiel.
