Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola has suggested that rival Premier League clubs are eager to see his team punished for alleged breaches of the league’s financial rules.
Guardiola’s remarks come as the highly anticipated hearing into City’s 115 charges begins on Monday.
City were charged in February 2023, following a four-year investigation, with alleged breaches dating from 2009 to 2018. The reigning champions deny the accusations, asserting they are supported by “irrefutable evidence.”
La Liga president Javier Tebas has been vocal in his criticism of City, accusing them of “financial doping” alongside Paris Saint-Germain. Tebas claims many Premier League clubs share his view that City should face consequences.

Pep Guardiola responded to Tebas’ remarks, stating, “For the first time I agree with Tebas. All the Premier League teams want us to be sanctioned, that is for sure. But I ask for patience and to wait for the independent panel.”
The case is expected to last for 10 weeks, with a verdict likely in early 2025. If found guilty of the most serious charges, City could face severe penalties, including a points deduction or even expulsion from the Premier League.
