Pochettino Seeks to Create "Historic Success" as New USMNT Coach

Former Chelsea manager Mauricio Pochettino has expressed his enthusiasm for taking over as the new head coach of the United States Men’s National soccer Team (USMNT).

The 52-year-old replaces Gregg Berhalter, who was dismissed following the team’s disappointing performance at the Copa América.

Pochettino’s decision to join the USMNT was driven by more than just football. He emphasized the opportunity to be part of a historic journey for both the team and the country. “The energy, the passion, and the hunger to achieve something truly historic here – those are the things that inspired me,” he stated.

Pochettino brings a wealth of experience to the role, having previously managed top European clubs like Southampton, Tottenham Hotspur, Paris Saint-Germain, and Chelsea. The Argentine tactician  led Tottenham to the 2019 Champions League final and has a proven track record of success.

The former Tottenham Hotspur manager is confident in the talent and potential of the USMNT squad. “I see a group of players full of talent and potential, and together we’re going to build something special that the whole nation can be proud of,” he added.

Pochettino’s appointment comes at a crucial time for the United States, as they prepare to co-host the 2026 FIFA World Cup. With his extensive experience managing top European clubs, Pochettino is well-equipped to lead the USMNT to success on the international stage.

Mauricio Pochettino will officially begin his tenure with the team on October 13 in a friendly match against Panama. As the USMNT looks to make a strong impression ahead of the 2026 World Cup, Pochettino’s leadership and vision will be crucial in guiding the team towards their goals.
