Liverpool captain Virgil van Dijk has commended his team’s performance following their 2-0 victory over Brentford in their second Premier League game of the season.
The 33-year-old highlighted the team’s defensive solidity and clinical finishing as key factors in the win.
“I think it was a good game,” Van Dijk said. “We didn’t concede many chances, scored good goals, and there were so many good things. Maybe a couple of things we have to improve and lots of things we can build on.”
The Reds got off to a flying start with Luis Diaz scoring an early goal in the 13th minute. Mohamed Salah sealed the victory with a goal in the 70th minute, ensuring Liverpool picked up their second win of the season.

Van Dijk also reflected on his milestone of playing 100 games at Anfield with only two losses. The Dutch defender joined Liverpool from Southampton in January 2018 and has made a total of 271 appearances for the club across all competitions.
“That’s not bad and I am really proud of it,” Van Dijk said. “I am still gutted about the two losses! I am proud of that. It is home and home should feel very comfortable. Credit to the fans and the team. Let’s make it an amazing season and then we will see.”
Liverpool’s next Premier League fixture is against Manchester United on September 1, and van Dijk and his teammates will be aiming to continue their winning form.
