Chelsea’s Armando Broja set to join Ipswich Town

Ipswich Town are on the verge of securing Chelsea striker Armando Broja on a season-long loan, with the potential for a permanent transfer.

The deal, which includes a £30 million buy clause, would be activated if Ipswich avoids relegation from the Premier League this season.

The 22-year-old Albania international initially hesitated to make the move to Portman Road but was persuaded on Tuesday to join Ipswich. The transfer is expected to be finalised on Wednesday, pending a successful medical.

Broja’s move to Ipswich is part of the club’s broader strategy to strengthen their squad following their promotion to the Premier League.

Ipswich have already bolstered their lineup with several signings, including Omari Hutchinson from Chelsea, Ben Johnson, Liam Delap, Arijanet Muric, Sammie Szmodics, Kalvin Phillips, and Jens Cajuste.

The Chelsea academy graduate has faced challenges in securing regular playing time since suffering an anterior cruciate ligament injury in December 2022.

His recent loan spell at Fulham also failed to meet expectations. Despite participating in Chelsea’s pre-season tour in the United States, Armando Broja was later assigned to train with the club’s ‘loan group,’ signaling his reduced role in Chelsea’s plans.

If the loan move is successful, Ipswich could benefit significantly from Broja’s talent and experience as they aim to establish themselves in the Premier League.
