Luka Modric has been included in Croatia’s 24-man squad for the opening fixtures of their UEFA Nations League campaign.
The Real Madrid captain, who will turn 39 in September, continues to be a pivotal figure for his country.
Modric, who made his international debut at 20 in 2006, has accumulated 178 caps over his storied career. Despite Croatia’s early exit from Euro 2024, there had been speculation about whether Modric would remain with the national team.

However, with the retirements of key teammates Domagoj Vida and Marcelo Brozovic, head coach Zlatko Dalic expressed his satisfaction at having Modric continue.

“He is our great strength, both on and off the field,” Dalic said, highlighting Modric’s enduring influence.
Modric, who extended his contract with Real Madrid for another year in July, started all three of Croatia’s Euro 2024 matches.
Croatia will kick off their Nations League campaign in League A with an away match against Portugal on September 5, followed by a home game against Poland three days later.
