Lille midfielder Angel Gomes has been released from the hospital after a frightening incident during Saturday’s Ligue 1 match against Stade Reims.
The 23-year-old Englishman was knocked unconscious in the 11th minute following a collision with Reims midfielder Amadou Kone.
The match was delayed for over 30 minutes as Gomes received treatment on the pitch. He was eventually stretchered off, prompting a show of support from fans of both clubs, who chanted his name in unison. Kone was subsequently sent off for the reckless challenge, and Lille went on to secure a 2-0 victory.
In a heartfelt Instagram video posted on Sunday, Gomes expressed his gratitude to the medical staff and fans for their support. “I’m okay, I’m back home. I’ve been looked after, and I’m feeling good,” he said. “I want to thank all the medical staff at the club and hospital who looked after me. This crazy collision, these things happen in football, but the most important thing is that I’m okay. We won three points.”
