Ghanaian midfielder Forson Amankwah shone as Norwich City secured a hard-fought 4-3 victory over Stevenage in the first round of the EFL Cup.
The 21-year-old, who recently joined the Canaries from RB Salzburg, made his full debut and provided an assist in the entertaining encounter.
Norwich opened the scoring after 26 minutes when Abu Kamara found the net with a fine strike. However, Stevenage responded swiftly, with Charlie Goode equalizing just two minutes later. Onel Hernandez restored Norwich’s lead shortly after, but Louis Appere brought the visitors level before halftime.
The second half continued to be a rollercoaster, with Borja Sainz putting Norwich back in front early on in the 48th mins. The game was effectively sealed in the 60th minute when Amankwah’s impressive performance was rewarded with an assist for Hernandez’s second goal of the match. Although Stevenage pulled one back late on through an own goal, Norwich held on to secure their place in the next round.
Forson Amankwah earned a rating of 7.0 from SofaScore for his performance, and he was replaced by Liam Gibbs in the 61st minute. The Ghanaian’s performance will undoubtedly boost his confidence as he aims to establish himself in the Norwich City first team.
The Canaries will now look ahead to their next fixture in the English Championship, where they host Blackburn Rovers on August 17th. Norwich will also be keen to discover their opponents in the second round of the EFL Cup, with the draw taking place today, August 14.
