Ghana relay team paired with Jamaica and Canada in Heat 2

Ghana’s relay team will be in action today in Heat 2 of the 4*100m event at the ongoing Paris 2024 Olympic Games.

Benjamin Azamati, Joseph Paul Amoah, Abdul Rasheed Saminu, Isaac Botsio, and Ibrahim Fuseini who make up team Ghana would have to finish in the top three of their heat or get one of the fastest time to book their place in the final.

Ghana qualified to the Paris Olympic Games courtesy the World Relays in Bahamas early this year. Ghana would have to beat Jamaica, China, Germany, Brazil, France, 2023 African Games bronze medalists, Liberia and Tokyo 2020 Olympics silver medalists and 2022 world champions, Canada.

Ghana’s national record in the relay event is 38.07 seconds; a record they set at the the World Athletics Championships in Eugene. Before that, Ghana’s record was 38.08; a record they set at the 2020 Olympic Games.

Benjamin Azamati, who reached the semi-finals of the 100m in Paris and Joseph Paul Amoah were part of Ghana’s team four years ago. Making his debut at the Olympics, Abdul-Rasheed Saminu reached the semi-final of the men’s 100m in Paris.

The race is scheduled to start at 9:35 am Ghana time.
