Patrick Asmah reveals wife’s amputation resulted in year-long absence from action

Former Asante Kotoko defender Patrick Asmah has shared the personal struggle he faced over the past year, which led to his hiatus from football.

Asmah, who was a key player for the Porcupine Warriors, has been inactive since the end of last season due to a family crisis.

In a heartfelt interview with Mo TV, Asmah revealed that his wife’s severe illness required an amputation of her leg, which necessitated significant medical expenses and personal sacrifice.

“We spent a lot on her operation. We came to Accra for treatment, and despite buying several items, the situation required amputation,” Asmah said. “And for me, I can’t just abandon her because of football.”

Now, as his wife’s condition stabilises, Asmah is determined to return to the sport he loves.

The 28-year-old, who represented Ghana at the FIFA U-20 World Cup in New Zealand in 2015, is reportedly in discussions with Hearts of Oak for a potential return to professional football.

Hearts of Oak’s head coach, Aboubakar Ouattara, confirmed the club’s interest in the defender. “I have told Patrick Asmah to come and justify himself at training grounds,” Ouattara said during a press conference.

Asmah’s return to football could be a significant boost for Hearts of Oak as they prepare for the upcoming season.
