Parma secure signing of Japanese Ghanaian goalkeeper Zion Suzuki

Newly promoted Serie A club Parma has officially secured Zion Suzuki from Sint-Truiden as their next starting goalkeeper.

The 21-year-old Japanese shot-stopper, who has Ghanaian heritage, joins Parma following an impressive stint in the Jupiler Pro League.

Suzuki, who was previously linked with a move to Manchester United last summer, saw that deal fall through. However, his talents did not go unnoticed, and Parma moved quickly to secure his services for a reported fee of 7 million euros, with additional bonuses included. His contract with the Italian side runs until June 30, 2029.

Before turning professional in 2020, Suzuki was trained in the Urawa Red Diamonds youth system in Japan. He represented Japan at various youth levels and by 2022, at just 19 years old, he had become a regular starter for the senior national team.

Last season, Suzuki played in 32 games in the Jupiler Pro League, showcasing his athleticism, moral integrity, and technical prowess. His performances have established him as a prominent player on the global stage, attracting interest from clubs beyond Parma, including Genoa, who were searching for a replacement for Josep Martinez.

Suzuki’s arrival is expected to bolster Parma’s defensive lineup as they prepare for their return to Serie A. The club and its supporters are hopeful that Suzuki’s abilities will contribute significantly to their success in the top flight.

As Parma looks forward to the new season, Zion Suzuki’s signing marks a significant step in their preparation and ambition to make a mark in Serie A.
