Switzerland international Kwadwo Duah, who has Ghanaian heritage, has highlighted the profound significance of scoring in the 2024 European Championship, calling it a milestone for his family.
Born in London to Ghanaian parents, Duah moved to Switzerland during his early childhood. His senior international debut came in June during a friendly against Estonia, marking the start of his impactful journey with the Swiss national team.
Duah was handed a start in Switzerland’s Euro 2024 lineup against Hungary and scored their opening goal in a 3-1 win, a moment of immense joy and family pride.
“It was a big moment for my family and me. To score the first goal for Switzerland in a European Championship, I don’t think everyone does that, and we were all very happy,” he told the BBC.
“I was born in London but we don’t have family there anymore. My mum and dad were in Ghana but they had an opportunity to go to England because it offered a better life.”
Currently with Ludogorets Razgrad in Bulgaria, Duah was an unused substitute as Switzerland suffered a heartbreaking loss to England in the Euro 2024 quarter-finals.
