Ibrahim Sannie Daara backs Kwesi Appiah’s dual role as positive for Ghana Football

Former Communications Director of the Ghana Football Association (GFA), Ibrahim Sannie Daara, has expressed his belief that the dual role of Kwesi Appiah as an Executive Committee (Exco) Member of the GFA and head coach of the Sudan national team is beneficial for Ghanaian football.

Following the draw for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers, where Ghana was placed in Group F alongside Sudan, there were immediate calls for Appiah to relinquish one of his positions to avoid a potential conflict of interest.

However, Sannie Daara has dismissed these concerns, emphasizing the positive impact Appiah’s dual responsibilities could have.

In an interview with JoySports, Sannie Daara stated, “I don’t see the issue that people have been raised. There’s always a case where people can recuse themselves from such discussion and it should be a straightforward case.”

He further highlighted the benefits of Appiah’s roles, saying, “Kwesi Appiah being there in charge of Sudan and also being in the Exco will add a lot of good to Ghana football. The learning experiences he will have in Sudan, he will bring it back as a Ghanaian to impact on Ghana football. If there are any issues of conflict of interest, he can recuse himself from those meetings.”

Appiah’s dual role has sparked debate, but Sannie Daara believes that his international experience and insights gained from coaching Sudan will ultimately contribute positively to the development of football in Ghana.
