Former GPL Golden Boot winner Hans Kwofie dies in car crash

In a tragic turn of events, former Medeama and AshantiGold striker Hans Kwofie has passed away in a fatal car crash at Dadwen on Friday.

The 35-year-old was traveling to his hometown of Dompim Pepesa when his car was involved in an accident, claiming his life instantly.

Kwofie, who had stints with several top Ghanaian clubs, was heading towards his hometown when the accident occurred in Dadwen, a nearby village.

Kwofie enjoyed an illustrious career in the Ghanaian mining town of Obuasi, where he excelled for three-time Premier League champions AshantiGold. He won the Premier League top scorer award in 2017 and played for other Ghanaian clubs such as Legon Cities and Aduana Stars.

The former Legon Cities and Aduana Stars striker’s untimely death on Friday, June 21, 2023, has sent shockwaves through the football community.

Kwofie was released by Medeama in August 2023 after failing to establish himself upon his return to his boyhood club. He then joined Aduana Stars and subsequently moved to Nepali side Birgunj United FC.

In addition to his domestic success, Kwofie also featured for Qatari club Al-Oruba and Egyptian outfit Smouha FC, showcasing his talent on an international stage.

The football community mourns the loss of Hans Kwofie, remembering him not only for his skills on the pitch but also for his contributions to the sport in Ghana and beyond.
