Uganda to Host 2024 African Boxing Union Convention

Uganda will host the 2024 African Boxing Union Convention at the Hotel Africana in Kampala City, under the auspices of the Uganda Professional Boxing Commission (UPBC).

The Convention, chaired by ABU President Mr. Houcine Houichi and his Executive, will begin on August 18 with the arrival of delegates and conclude on August 23 with two ABU Title fights and five supporting bouts.

The ABU convention is held every two years, with the last one hosted by Zimbabwe in Victoria Falls City at the Victoria Falls Hotel in 2022.

According to Maureen Mulangira, UPBC Treasurer and ABU Secretary General, the Convention will address many important issues concerning Professional Boxing in Africa and globally.

“During the same, we shall have two days of the ABU/WBC Ring Officials'(Referee & Judges) Training which will be conducted by two WBC high ranked trainers of Ring Officials” she said.

“As part of the Convention program, our delegates will visit different tourism sites of Uganda, to enjoy the “The Pearl of Africa”.  Mulangira, who is also a Member of the Board of Governors – WBC, expressed her enthusiasm and openness to further inquiries during an interview.
